Renown for its long distance and rugged beauty, this trail offers a walk through land used to grow coffee and pineapple.
- Distance
- approx. 9-11 miles (ROUND TRIP) total - i.e. ~4.6-5.5 miles one-way, D.T. Fleming Beach Park to Maunalei Arboretum and back. Kapalua official '20 plus-mile roundtrip' conflicts with all GPS sources - outlier, not used. 17-mile signage figure debunked by Maui Hikes
- Difficulty
- Moderate to Difficult
- Starting Elevation
- Near sea level (approx. 31 ft - Trailforks range low)
- Tour Company
- N/A
- Access Notes
- No entrance fee or permit found in current sources. Kapalua official hours 7 am to sunset. The Kapalua shuttle to Maunalei Arboretum NO LONGER OPERATES (2014 Lahaina News schedules are historical only) - hike is out-and-back from D.T. Fleming. Pu'u Kukui watershed is NOT the trail endpoint in any source - trail ends at Maunalei Arboretum / Honolua Ridge connection.
- Elevation Gain
- 2,342-2,657 ft cumulative (AllTrails) - exceeds net gain because the route dips ~0.5 mi before the arboretum; do not present gain as end elevation
- Trailhead
- D.T. Fleming Beach Park (Hwy 30, past Mile Marker 31) - trailhead by the Kapalua Preschool / green schoolhouse on the park access road. Kapalua official also lists access from Kapalua Village Center
